FREEEAST TURKISTAN SYMPOSIUMmost of the Uyghur people who have migrated to Europe or the UnitedStates conduct peaceful activities and raise their demands through legalUyghur organizations in these countries. Yet, still, they are tracked byChinese authorities.4. Uyghur refugees are exposed to forced deportation from the countriesthey have emigrated to. Such actions take place when the publicauthorities in the countries to which the Uyghurs have emigrated demandofficial papers. When the refugees contact the Chinese embassy for thesepapers, they can be forcefully deported back to China. They are oftensentenced to death when they arrive back in China.ConclusionThe cause of East Turkistan is a cause of human rights. A nation has beendeprived of its lands, language, freedom of expression and freedom of religion;their history has been derided and they are living as third-class citizens in theirhomeland. The wealth of their country is being systematically exploited. It is forall these reasons that the East Turkistan cause is primarily a humanitarian cause.Turkistan is also known as “the Heart of Asia”. I say that East Turkistan isalso the heart of the Muslim people. The problems and sufferings of the peopleof Turkistan cannot remain ignored at such a time of mass communication andinformation. International society, international organizations and human rightsorganizations cannot ignore this fact. I believe that a television station thatbroadcasts to the east and west from East Turkistan, informing internationalsociety of the situation in the historical civilization of East Turkistan would bevery effective and helpful. This station would attract the attention of internationalsociety to the cause, disclosing stolen rights, exhibiting the civilized face of EastTurkistan and reminding the Muslims of the contributions that East Turkistanhas made to our beloved religion.Furthermore, the factor of religion should be regarded only as a basic factorthat gives shape to Uygur identity. There is also the question of respect for civilrights and liberties. There is a struggle for the existence of a nation which hasbeen exposed to assimilation by force.
