East Turkistan After July 5/ Seyit TumturkEast Turkistan officially can have two children. but ny family with two daughtersin the southern part of East Turkistan should give one of their two daughters tothe Chinese government, and the ages of these girls range between 16 and 25.These girls should be single with no children. The Chinese government workthese girls hard and they are forced to migrate into inner parts of China withhardly any connections to or communication with their families over a long time.Some of these girls have still not been found, even today. These girls can be soldto Chinese men who have been unable to find a wife, or to brothels. According tothe “İktisat” (Finance) newspaper, published in Urumchi, the total number of girlswho have been forced to migrate is more than 200,000. 32Thousands of factories in the south of China were closed during the globalcrisis and millions of young women were sent back to their hometowns. Despiteall these occurrences, none of the 6,052 girls who were taken from the Peyzavatdistrict in East Turkistan to work in factories returned to their homes.Actually, one of the underlying factors is that the East Turkistan region, whichhas also been described as the “Kuwait of the 21 st Century” in terms of naturalresources, is a source of raw-materials in China. 118 of the 148 mines workedin China are located in the East Turkistan region. That is, East Turkistan holds85% of the mines in China. China, whose energy requirements have increasedwith the industrialization process since the 1980s, is in second place in termsof energy consumption according to data provided by the International EnergyAgency in 2008. In other words, the power of the “Workshop of the World”comes from East Turkistan. East Turkistan is the largest natural gas productionregion in China. It also holds significant oil reserves as well as half of the overallcoal reserves in China. China is aware of the importance of East Turkistan in itsefforts to diversify sources and to utilize nuclear power. This is because Chinesegeologists have recently discovered a 10 thousand-ton uranium reserve in the İlibasin of East Turkistan after 17 years of research. The Lop Nor Region, wherenuclear tests have been conducted, is also in East Turkistan. In other words, theEast Turkistan Region, which is the gateway of China onto Central Asia and theWest, also has abundant energy sources, and thus is critically important for China.There are also restrictions on languages. Although 50% of people speakUyghur Turkish in East Turkistan, it is prohibited to use a Turkish name in the359
