FREEEAST TURKISTAN SYMPOSIUMmillions of Chinese and settled them in Xinjiang, an area in which there is amajority of Muslims, in order to eliminate the ethnic and cultural identity rightsof the Muslims, who are now foreigners in their own country. The former secretary of the Communist Party and the Chinese presidentJiang Zemin declared that China was proposing to settle two hundred millionChinese in Turkistan; however, resistance by the people of Turkistan continuedand prevented this move with the events of July 5, 2009; after this Chinese settlersbegan to leave the country and many have returned to their home, leaving Urumqilike a ghost-town. Even in other cities, there is a gap between the Han settlersand the people of Turkistan; thus, the millions that have been spent to consolidatepeaceful coexistence with the natives of Turkistan have been spent in vain.Birth control policyAfter China attempted to demographically blur the identity of the peopleof Turkistan, they began a policy of birth control; although on the surface thispolicy appears to be applied in all parts of China, the reality is quite differentin Turkistan. It has been applied to the people of Turkistan in a very harsh andinhumane manner. For example, if a young man goes to the authorities for amarriage license he cannot obtain it until signing a written pledge that he will nothave children for five years; if he violates this undertaking the man will lose hisjob and be forced to pay a fine of up to 30,000 yen. Despite all these strict rules, many people here have more than the quota of children. Dozens of young peopleI know have between 8 and 10 children, although they do suffer for this. The prevention of religious education in order to blur identityThe people of Turkistan have been deprived of religious education for 60years; there are no religious schools in this area. There is one institute in thecapital, Urumqi (the Islamic Institute of Urumqi), but the number of studentshere does not exceed 40, and they are taught Chinese politics and the philosophyof Communism. In short, this Institute throws dust in the eyes of the world; I askyou, by God, what does it mean when there is a population of 30 million people, but there is only one institute to instruct these people in their religion?588
