The number of insurgenciesagainst Chinese occupation during the last sixty years has been more than 460.As stated above, there have been many important and momentous uprisingsin the history of modern Turkistan:- The “Barin” uprising on 04.05.1990, led by Zeyin El-Din Youssef; as aresult of this uprising many villages were wiped out and their ruins can still beseen today.- The “Eli” uprising, on 02.05.1997, where more than 300 young Muslimswere sprayed with cold water in winter, when the temperature was below -10degrees.- The latest, and not the least, of these uprisings was the events of July 5, 2009;this was a historic turning point and will have an important role in resolvingthe issue of East Turkistan. The repercussions are still continuing today and willcontinue to resound until the people of Turkistan regain their full freedom.Below are listed the important stages in the history of these noble people:The Chinese displacement and resettlement policyThe geographical and historical land that is known as East Turkistan has beenthe home of the Turkic people since ancient times; by virtue of its proximity toChina and its relationship with the former China, as well as the ambitions ofsuccessive governments, Chinese immigrants, the Han, and Hui Muslims, havealso lived in Turkistan, but their numbers have been very small.
