3. Insert the SharePoint Portal Server CD into your CD-ROM drive.<br />

4. Type cd\ <strong>and</strong> then press Enter.<br />

5. Navigate to the drive letter for the CD-ROM drive.<br />

6. For help with the setup comm<strong>and</strong> line parameters, type setup /?, <strong>and</strong> then<br />

press Enter.<br />

7. Do one of the following:<br />

■ To install SharePoint Portal Server with the database engine, type setup<br />

/q /o INSTALLMODE=1 PIDKEY=CD_key <strong>and</strong> then press Enter.<br />

■ To install SharePoint Portal Server without the database engine, type setup<br />

/q /o INSTALLMODE=0 ACCOUNTNAME=DOMAIN\user_name<br />

ACCOUNTPASSWORD=password PIDKEY=CD_key <strong>and</strong> then press<br />

Enter.<br />

Note Ensure that the CD_key has no dashes in it; otherwise, setup might<br />

fail.<br />

It is recommended that you turn on verbose logging by adding the following<br />

parameter to either of the above: /L*V path_to_log_file.<br />

To monitor progress, open Task Manager <strong>and</strong> view MasterSetupApp running<br />

in the Applications tab.<br />

Table 3-4 shows the parameters available with the comm<strong>and</strong>-line setup, <strong>and</strong><br />

Figure 3-11 displays the comm<strong>and</strong>-line switches available when running setup.exe.<br />

Parameter Description<br />

PIDKEY=CD_key CD_key is the key for the product. This is<br />

required to set up SharePoint Portal Server<br />

from the comm<strong>and</strong> line.<br />

SPSROOT=path_for_files Path_for_files is the file path that defines the<br />

installation location for the program files for<br />

SharePoint Portal Server.<br />

SPSSEARCHDATA=path_for_search_files Path_for_search_files is the file path that<br />

defines the installation location for the content<br />

index files.
