Manage Portal Site Alerts Settings<br />

Administrators have the possibility to manage alerts on a portal site level via the<br />

Manage Alert Settings page. From this administration page you can accomplish the<br />

following tasks:<br />

■ Managing individual user alerts<br />

■ Deleting all alerts <strong>and</strong> alert results<br />

■ Deleting all alert results e-mail messages in the alerts queue<br />

■ Setting alert quotas, setting <strong>and</strong>/or locking the user’s default alert e-mail<br />

address<br />

■ Setting the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server used for sending e-mail<br />

alert notifications<br />

To enable portal site alerts<br />

Alerts are an important feature within SharePoint Portal Server. You must<br />

enable this feature before users can benefit from alerts.<br />

1. On the title bar of the portal site, click Site Settings.<br />

2. In the General Settings section, click Go to SharePoint Portal Server central<br />

administration.<br />

3. In the Portal Site <strong>and</strong> Virtual Server Configuration section, click Configure<br />

virtual server settings from the Virtual Server List page.<br />

4. Click the name of your Virtual Server.<br />

5. In the Virtual Server Management section, click Virtual server general<br />

settings.<br />

6. In the Alerts section, you can enable alerts on the virtual server <strong>and</strong> specify<br />

the maximum number of alerts per user.<br />

To manage portal site alerts<br />

Administrators can manage alerts for all users.<br />

1. On the title bar of the portal site, click Site Settings.<br />

2. In the General Settings section, click Manage alerts settings.<br />

3. In the User Alerts Management section, click Manage user profiles to go to<br />

a page where you can delete or deactivate an individual user’s alerts.<br />

4. In the Delete All Alerts <strong>and</strong> Alert Results section, click Delete all alerts <strong>and</strong><br />

alert results to remove every alert <strong>and</strong> alert result stored on the portal site for<br />

all users. Click OK to confirm that you want to delete all alerts <strong>and</strong> alert results<br />

for all users. This action cannot be undone.
