826 Part IX: Maintaining a Server in Windows SharePoint Services
Note Properties values are used while viewing Web Parts in the browser.
They do not affect how the Web Part behaves when you use an HTML-compatible
editor such as FrontPage 2003. For example, even when Allow Zone
Change is not selected, it is possible in FrontPage 2003 to move the Web
Part from one zone to another. To prevent a user from minimizing, removing,
or moving the Web Part by using the browser, you set the Allow Minimize,
Allow Remove, and Allow Zone Change properties to False.
■ Allow Export Sensitive Properties. Applies only in the personal view and
controls whether a user can export sensitive data by selecting Export from the
Web Part menu to a Web Part description (.dwp) file, which is an XML document.
The .dwp file captures a snapshot of the property settings for a Web
Part and a reference to the assembly (.DLL) and the .NET class used to create
it. An assembly is the .NET term for the smallest unit of deployment, and
deployment will be described later in this chapter. If the Allow Export Sensitive
Properties check box is not set (False), not all Web Part properties will be
exported; only properties not flagged by the developer as controlled properties
will be exported. The developer can use the ControlledProperties property to
prevent the viewing and distribution of one or more property values that might
contain sensitive information. This property also controls whether a Web Part
property can be accessed by the Web Part Services Component (WPSC) that
runs on the client computer or whether it can be used in the default Web service.
For more information, see the Client-side Communication topic in the
SharePoint Products and Technologies 2003 SDK.
■ Detail Link. Specifies the URL of an HTML file containing additional information
about the Web Part. When you click the Web Part title, the file is displayed
in the same window that hosted the Web Part Page. To return to the
Web Part Page, click the browser’s Back button. The detail link is disabled
when viewing the Web Part in design mode. If this were not the case, you
would not be able to move the Web Part by using a drag-and-drop operation
because any attempt would be redirected to the HTML file.
■ Description. Specifies the screen tip that appears when you rest the mouse
pointer on the Web Part title or the Web Part icon. When you search for Web
Parts by using the Search command on the Find Web Parts menu of the tool
pane, the value of this property is used.
