Chapter 15: Configuring Windows SharePoint Services 371
4. On the Virtual Server Settings page, under Virtual Server Management, click
Manage content databases.
5. On the Manage Content Databases page, under Content Databases, select the
database you want to change.
6. On the Manage Content Database Settings page, in the Remove Content
Database section, select the Remove content database check box.
7. Click OK.
You can reconnect to a content database that you have removed by adding it
again. To reconnect to an existing content database, you need to use the same database
server and database name. There are additional steps if you are reconnecting to a content
database after restoring the database to a new server farm. For more information,
refer to Chapter 28, “Disaster Recovery in SharePoint Products and Technologies.”
When you remove a content database, the site data stored in that database is
not deleted. You can reconnect to the content database later to restore the sites.
Removing a Content Database from the Command Line
The Unextendvs property can be used with the Stsadm command line to remove
Windows SharePoint Services from a particular virtual server. And if you use the
deletecontent parameter, you can delete the content databases for the virtual server
at the same time. A sample syntax is as follows:
stsadm.exe -o unextendvs -url [-deletecontent] E-mail settings –
Specify the outbound e-mail server to use and the e-mail addresses to use
when sending e-mail from the server. E-mail settings can also be configured at the
server level and used as the default settings.
Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services sends alerts and other administrator messages
by using an SMTP server. This feature is also required for end-users to request
access to a site or list. You can specify which SMTP server to use and set the e-mail
address to use for sending alerts and receiving replies for all sites. See Figure 15-12.
