SharePoint Portal Server–specific information.
There are some differences in installation when you use SQL Server instead of
the default option, MSDE. Table 3-3 explains which of the following sections apply
To install SharePoint Portal Server 2003, follow these steps:
1. Insert the SharePoint Portal Server CD into your CD-ROM drive.
Tip If the installation does not start, click Setup.exe or Autorun.exe
located within the SPS2003 folder of your installation CD to begin setup.
2. If your CD-ROM supports Autorun, click the Install Microsoft Office Share-
Point Portal Server 2003 Components link.
3. On the Install Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 page, review the
requirements, and then click Next.
4. The installation requires stopping the IIS services before continuing. Click OK
to have the services stopped and to continue with the installation.
Note The services stopped are the World Wide Web Publishing Service,
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), HTTP SSL, and IIS Admin services.
During the installation process, setup resets IIS. There will be a momentary
loss of service on the Web server.
