Chapter 32: Using Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 to Customize SharePoint Products 923
As you can see, you can use Data Views to format and display SharePoint lists
data, thereby enabling powerful authoring capabilities that seamlessly integrate the
authoring platform provided by FrontPage 2003 with the data-driven infrastructure
of Windows SharePoint Services.
Using Reports to Measure Site Use and Performance
FrontPage 2003 includes powerful tools to help track site use and performance, and
identify potential problems so that you can take action to fix them. These tools are
available to use on sites created with Windows SharePoint Services and SharePoint
Portal Server 2003, and usage analysis reports are available as long as the server
administrator has turned reporting on. Site usage analysis reports are run on a regular
basis, with the frequency and time determined by the server administrator.
To access reports from within FrontPage 2003, open your website, and select
Reports from the View menu. You can choose from a variety of reports, including Site
Summary, Files, Shared Content, Problems, Workflow, and Usage. (See Figure 32-67.)
The Site Summary report presents key information about your site, including
the number of hits and downloads, number of files and pictures in your site, the
number of files that aren’t linked to and therefore might not be necessary, slow
pages, older files, links to reports displaying lists of all of the pages, and more. You
can use this report to find many common problems with your site and then fix them.
You can also use the usage analysis reports to find out which pages in your site
are being accessed most frequently and which pages might not be necessary or
might need to be updated on your site because they are not accessed frequently.
The usage summary report also gives you a snapshot of your site’s usage at a
glance, including number of visits, page hits, bytes downloaded, top referrers, top
referring domains, and more.

Hooray! Your file is uploaded and ready to be published.
