Area Security
ond bucket level contains a maximum of 8000 Webs. Once the second level is full a
third level would be created, and so on. Only when a bucket is needed will it be created,
as illustrated in Figure 20-12, where the highest first-level bucket is C11. Once
an area is deleted the Web slot in the bucket hierarchy is available for reuse when
you create a new area.
You can specify security at the area level, and then all subareas, document libraries,
or lists within that area will inherit from the area. To set security permissions, navigate
to the Portal Site Map page and choose Manage Security from the area’s dropdown
menu.
Keywords and Keyword Best Bets
Keywords are used to mark specific items as more relevant for a particular word
included in search. Doing this will cause certain items to show up more prominently
in search results—specifically, with a yellow star. The primary purpose of keywords
is to help readers search for and find information based on keywords or a synonym
of a keyword.
Administrators and subject matter experts create keywords for common
searches, and then add keyword Best Bets for each keyword that marks items most
relevant to that search. You can filter the IIS log to get a better understanding of
what users are looking for. For example, you can filter to learn the 10 most frequently
searched keywords in each portal and assign keyword Best Bets based on
this analysis. If you intend to filter the IIS logs on a regular basis, you should obtain
software to analyze the log, as manually reviewing log entries is a very time-consuming
exercise.
Keywords are created in a hierarchical structure that enables you to manage
the keywords and keyword Best Bets, as can be seen in Figure 20-13. You can create
additional keywords under existing keywords based on subject matter. Instead of
creating a flat structure that presents thousands of keywords at a time, you can create
a structure that enables you to quickly navigate through the hierarchy to the keyword
you want to manage. This capability is useful for organizing keywords, but the
hierarchical structure doesn’t identify any relationship between the keywords as far
as searching is concerned. The keyword Best Bets for lower-level keywords don’t
appear in search results for the higher-level keywords. For example, create a keyword
named Residential with a subkeyword Bungalow and then associate a specific
document as a Best Bet for the keyword Bungalow. When you enter the word Residential
in the Search box and click the execute search green arrow button, the specific
document will not appear in the search result set as a Best Bet. But when you
