4. In the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings dialog box, in the Automatic<br />

configuration section, ensure that both check boxes are cleared.<br />

5. If you use a proxy server, complete step 6 through step 11. Otherwise, go<br />

to step 12.<br />

6. In the Proxy server section, select the Use a proxy server for your LAN<br />

(These settings will not apply to dial-up or VPN connections) check<br />

box.<br />

7. Select the Bypass proxy server for local addresses check box.<br />

8. In the Address box, type a valid proxy server address.<br />

9. In the Port box, type the port number for the proxy server.<br />

10. Click Advanced.<br />

11. In the Proxy Settings dialog box, select the Use the same proxy server<br />

for all protocols check box, <strong>and</strong> then click OK.<br />

12. Click OK to close the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings dialog box.<br />

13. Click OK to close the Internet Options dialog box.<br />

3. Insert the SharePoint Portal Server CD into your CD-ROM drive.<br />

4. Create an .ini file:<br />

1. On the taskbar, click Start, <strong>and</strong> then click Run.<br />

2. In Open, type path_to_server_setup_file setup /CreateUnattend path<br />

filename.ini where filename is the name of the .ini file that you want to<br />

create. For example, if the setup file is in the Setup directory on drive D<br />

<strong>and</strong> you want to create sample.ini on the E drive, type D:\Setup\setup<br />

/CreateUnattend E:\sample.ini.<br />

3. Click OK.<br />

4. Follow the instructions that appear in the setup wizard. All settings that you<br />

choose are included in the .ini file that you create.<br />

5. Edit the .ini file:<br />

1. In a text editor, such as <strong>Microsoft</strong> WordPad, open filename.ini where filename<br />

is the name of the .ini file that you created.<br />

2. Modify parameters in the file for the settings that you want SharePoint<br />

Portal Server setup to use.<br />

3. If you plan to use an unattended installation file on servers with varying storage<br />

configurations, ensure that hard-coded paths are valid for each server<br />

configuration before starting the installation. An example of a hard-coded
