844 Part IX: Maintaining a Server in Windows SharePoint Services
it as detailed earlier in this chapter. If the Online gallery is not listed under Add Web
Parts, one or both of the following conditions are true:
■ Access to the online Web Part Page gallery is disabled on the virtual server.
■ Your server is behind a proxy server or firewall; the proxy server settings are
not specified in the Web.config file for the virtual server.
To resolve this issue, enable access to the online Web Part Page gallery on the
virtual server. If your server is behind a proxy server or firewall, you must also edit
the Web.config file to include the proxy server settings for the virtual server where
you want to enable the online Web Part Page gallery. In a server farm environment,
you must edit the Web.config file for each virtual server in every front-end Web
server in the server farm.
To configure the Web.config file, follow these steps:
1. Start a text editor, such as Notepad.
2. Locate and open the Web.config file for the virtual server where you want to
enable access to the online Web Part Page gallery. The default location of the
Web.config is in the following folder: :\Inetpub\wwwroot. Check
that this is the correct location by using the Internet Information Server (IIS)
Manager, and under the Web Sites section, right-click the appropriate virtual
server, select Properties, and then click the Home Directory tab where you
can take note of the local path name.
3. Locate the entry near the end of the Web.config file.
4. Copy and paste the following lines to the Web.config file, immediately after the
entry, where is the name of your proxy server
and is the port that you are using:

5. Save the Web.config file, and then close the text editor.
Repeat steps 1 through 5 for each virtual server where you want to enable
access to the online Web Part Page gallery.
If your organization runs Windows SharePoint Services on multiple servers,
you might want to create an online Web Part Page gallery as a central location for
deploying Web Parts to all your SharePoint sites.
