To submit the certificate request, <strong>and</strong> obtain the server certificate from the<br />

Certificate Server<br />

If you use <strong>Microsoft</strong> Certificate Services, use the following steps to request a<br />

server certificate from the certificate server.<br />

Note The following procedure is based on <strong>Microsoft</strong> Certificate Services<br />

installed on Windows Server 2003. The user interface will be slightly different<br />

if you are using <strong>Microsoft</strong> Certificate Services installed on Windows<br />

2000 Server.<br />

If you use another certificate authority (CA), use the steps supplied by<br />

the CA provider.<br />

1. In your Web browser, type the URL of the CA server. Next, on the Welcome<br />

page, click Request a Certificate.<br />

2. On the Request a Certificate page, click Advanced certificate request. On the<br />

Advanced Certificate Request page, click Submit a certificate request by<br />

using a base-64-encoded CMC or PKCS #10 file, or submit a renewal<br />

request by using a base-64-encoded PKCS #7 file.<br />

3. Leave the Web browser open on the Submit a Certificate Request or Renewal<br />

Request page, <strong>and</strong> do the following:<br />

a. In a text editor such as Notepad, open file certreq.txt in the directory<br />

:\Certificates\. This is the directory that<br />

you created in the previous section.<br />

b. Select <strong>and</strong> copy the contents of the file, <strong>and</strong> then close the text editor.<br />

4. Return to the Submit a Certificate Request or Renewal Request page. Paste the<br />

copied text into the Saved Request box, <strong>and</strong> then click Submit.<br />

5. On the Certificate Issued page, do the following:<br />

a. Leave the DER encoded option selected.<br />

b. Click Download certificate.<br />

c. In the File Download dialog box, click Save.<br />

d. In the Save As dialog box, navigate to :\Certificates<br />

\.<br />

e. Click Save.
