76 Part I: Introduction to SharePoint Products and Technologies
in the .ini for a setting. This setup lets you install identical configurations of Share-
Point Portal Server on multiple computers in a consistent, automated fashion.
Note You will not be able to set up remote database installations using
the .ini file, as the account name and password listed are valid only for the
MSI session being executed for the SharePoint Portal Server installation,
and they will not extend to create the Administrative Virtual Server or Application
Pool. To automate remote database installations, use the command
line.
A Setup.ini file for SharePoint Portal Server 2003 is provided on the root directory
of the SharePoint Portal Server CD. A Setup.ini file is also provided for the client
components for backward-compatible document libraries. However, you must create
the Setup.ini file for the (server) component for backward-compatible document
libraries. Instructions to do this are provided later in this section.
You can use the Setup.ini file to do the following:
■ Install additional applications (other than SharePoint Portal Server) that use
Microsoft Windows Installer.
■ Specify different command-line arguments for different applications. For example,
if you install additional applications, you can specify that one application
installs with no user interface while another application installs with full user
interface.
By default, Setup.ini contains the following code:
[MSI]
ProductName=Microsoft(R) Windows(R) SharePoint(TM) Services
ProductRelativeLocation=WSS\STS.MSI
[MSI]
ProductName=SharePoint Portal Server
ProductRelativeLocation=SPS\SPS.MSI
[MSI]
ProductName=Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine
ProductRelativeLocation=SPS\SQLRUN16.MSI
file.
ProductRelativeLocation is the path to the directory that contains the Setup.exe
You can include the parameters shown in Table 3-5 in the Setup.ini file.

Hooray! Your file is uploaded and ready to be published.
