■ When a site is locked manually, users who attempt to view the site will see an<br />

access denied message.<br />

Sites can be unlocked by different methods, depending on the reason for the<br />

lock. Site administrators can unlock sites by themselves if the sites are locked for<br />

exceeding quota limits. Only a server administrator can clear a manual lock. Table 15-5<br />

lists the lock reasons <strong>and</strong> methods for unlocking sites.<br />

Lock Reason<br />

If you need to lock a site <strong>and</strong> deny all users access to it, either temporarily or<br />

permanently, you do so by using the Site Quota Settings And Locks page.<br />

To lock a site manually<br />

1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Administrative Tools, <strong>and</strong> then<br />

click SharePoint Central Administration.<br />

2. On the Central Administration page, under Component Configuration, click<br />

Administer quotas <strong>and</strong> locks.<br />

3. On the Administer Quotas And Locks page, click Site Quota Settings <strong>and</strong><br />

Locks.<br />

4. In the Select a top-level Web site section, type the URL in the Enter the toplevel<br />

Web site URL box, <strong>and</strong> then click View Data.<br />

5. In the Site Lock Information section, select Adding content prevented or<br />

No access.<br />

6. If you want to further document the reason for the lock, type an explanation in<br />

the Additional lock reason information: box.<br />

7. Click OK.<br />

When a site has been locked manually, you can unlock it by using the Site<br />

Quota Settings And Locks page.<br />

Storage limit exceeded Change the quota value, or clear Delete excess site content<br />

the Adding Content Prevented lock or documents<br />

1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Administrative Tools, <strong>and</strong> then<br />

click SharePoint Central Administration.
