For each component, you can edit the logging level as follows:<br />

■ Do not log event for this component<br />

■ Log critical events only<br />

■ Log informational events <strong>and</strong> critical events<br />

■ Log tracing information<br />

Note You should select Log Tracing Information only for troubleshooting purposes.<br />

Logging tracing information might affect performance <strong>and</strong> disk use.<br />

You can also choose to save a copy of the log automatically after a specified<br />

number of days, <strong>and</strong> you can choose to delete logs automatically after a specified number<br />

of days to save disk space.<br />

View Diagnostic Logs<br />

This section allows for viewing <strong>and</strong> deleting the log files created by the components<br />

defined in the Logging Settings section just described.<br />

To view <strong>and</strong> delete diagnostic logs<br />

1. On the SharePoint Portal Server Central Administration For server_name page, in<br />

the Component Configuration section, click Configure diagnostic settings.<br />

2. On the Configure Diagnostic Settings For server_name page, in the View Diagnostic<br />

Logs section, in the Diagnostic logs list, select a diagnostic log, <strong>and</strong><br />

then do one of the following:<br />

a. To view the selected log, click View Log.<br />

b. To delete the selected log, click Delete. You cannot delete a log file that<br />

is in use.<br />

c. To delete unused log files, click Delete Unused Log Files.
