Business-to-business collaboration and resource sharing allows a company and its
partners to work more effectively towards reaching business goals. A connection to
the Internet facilitates the flexibility and convenience of accessing data at any time
or place. Although an extranet portal might be convenient for your employees, your
extranet is typically a mission-critical necessity for both partners and internal business
units that work with them. Therefore, partners and business units are very sensitive
to the timeliness of the extranet service. Business functions often depend on the data
that is exchanged, so delays can be very costly. The extranet needs to be reliable, and
the partners and business units need to be able to contact someone who can quickly
resolve issues when they arise.
