Chapter 42: Upgrading and Migrating to SharePoint Products and Technologies 1117
Upgrading to SharePoint Portal Server 2003 consists of the following eight procedures,
which are also documented in the white paper just mentioned:
1. Back up and restore the SharePoint Portal Server 2001 data to another computer
that is running SharePoint Portal Server 2001. Check that both systems work.
2. Export the SharePoint Portal Server 2001 configuration information by running
the Upgrade.exe program file, which is on the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 CD.
You will need to specify a location. This can be a local drive or a network share.
The upgrade process will create a directory named $$_SharepointPortalV1Export-
Data_$$, in which will be a number of XML files with naming conventions
such as _BestBetKeyWords, _Categories
_$, _searchn, _Security, and
V1Export.XML, which contain the workspace details, categories, content
sources, keywords, and Best Bets. V1Export.XML is a summary of your workspaces
and contact names. You can edit these files if you do not wish to import
a particular workspace or a category into your SharePoint Portal Server 2003
deployment.
3. Upgrade Windows 2000 Server to Windows Server 2003 and install ASP.NET. If
you plan to rename the server, complete this change either before upgrading
the computer to Windows Server 2003 or before you install ASP.NET.
4. Use the Upgrade.exe program a second time, which upgrades the SharePoint
Portal Server 2001 document store to the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 backwardcompatible
document store.
5. Install SharePoint Portal Server 2003. Every SharePoint Portal Server 2003
installation includes a SQL Server content store. During the SharePoint Portal
Server 2003 installation, the SQL Server content store is created to support
the needs of the portal site and to support additional SharePoint sites
created on the server. The original SharePoint Portal Server 2001 documents
remain in the backward-compatible document store installed in procedure 4
of this list.
6. Import SharePoint Portal Server 2001 configuration information—that is, the
categories, keywords, and content sources—into the new portal site by clicking
Site Settings and then under the Portal Site Content section, clicking Import
Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001 data as shown in Figure 42-3.
7. The Import SharePoint Portal Server 2001 Data Web page is displayed as
shown in Figure 42-4. Select the content type you wish to import, that is, Areas,
Listings and Best Bets, and Search. Choose the workspace from which you
wish to import the configuration details, and then click OK.

Hooray! Your file is uploaded and ready to be published.
