Note If you received the certificate from a provider other than <strong>Microsoft</strong><br />

Certificate Services, select the file with the extension defined in the certificate<br />

provider’s instructions.<br />

6. On the SSL Port page, in the SSL port this web site should use box, type<br />

443, <strong>and</strong> then click Next.<br />

Note 443 is the default port for SSL. You can select a different port than<br />

443 if required.<br />

7. On the Certificate Summary page, click Next. On the Completing the Web<br />

Server Certificate Wizard page, click Finish.<br />

8. Click OK to close the Default Web Site Properties dialog box.<br />

To verify that the certificate is valid<br />

You should verify that IIS recognizes that the server certificate is valid. If this is<br />

not the case, you can try reinstalling the certificate or installing missing certificate<br />

chains.<br />

1. Open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager. In the console tree, exp<strong>and</strong><br />

the computer name node, <strong>and</strong> then exp<strong>and</strong> the Web Sites node. Right-click<br />

Default Web Site, <strong>and</strong> then click Properties.<br />

2. On the Directory Security tab, in the Secure communications section, click<br />

View Certificate.<br />

3. Verify the following in the Certificate dialog box:<br />

■ On the General tab, confirm that the certificate is valid.<br />

■ On the Certification Path tab, verify that the Certificate status box<br />

contains the statement “This certificate is OK.”<br />

If the certificate status is not OK, you will see a red X or a yellow warning<br />

icon. If this happens, try reinstalling the certificate or the certificate authority<br />

root. For more information, see the “Troubleshooting” section at the end of this<br />

chapter.<br />

4. Click OK to close the Certificate properties dialog box, <strong>and</strong> then click OK to<br />

close the Default Web Site Properties dialog box.
