Setting Up a Web Publishing Rule
A default installation of ISA Server 2000 blocks both inbound and outbound access.
When you install ISA Server, it configures a default Web publishing rule. The default
rule is configured so that all requests are discarded. To make the portal site available
for external users, you need to set up at least one Web publishing rule.
To publish a website using a Web publishing rule, you need to create and configure
the following items on the ISA Server machine:
1. Destination set
2. Web publishing rule
3. Listener for incoming Web requests
Creating a Destination Set
A destination set is made up of one or more FQDNs or IP addresses and a set of one
or more path statements. Path statements can be used to direct requests to specific
folders under the root of the Web server.
Destination sets are used to control both inbound and outbound access. The
Web publishing rule matches a request for a particular FQDN in the HTTP header
with an entry in a destination set to determine where to redirect the incoming traffic.
To create a destination set for a Web publishing rule for a portal site, perform
the following steps on ISA Server 2000:
1. Open the ISA Management MMC snap-in (by clicking Start, pointing to Programs,
pointing to Microsoft ISA Server, and then clicking ISA Management).
2. In the console tree of ISA Management, click Policy Elements, right-click
Destination Sets, select New, and then click Set.
3. In the New Destination Set dialog box, in the Name box, type a name for the
destination set. Optionally, in the Description box, type a description for this
destination set. Click Add.
4. In the Add/Edit Destination dialog box, make sure that the Destination option
button is selected. In the Name box, type the FQDN that external clients will use
to connect to the SharePoint site—for example, external.contoso.com.
5. Click OK to create the destination set.

Hooray! Your file is uploaded and ready to be published.
