A theme is a unified set of design elements that influence the fonts and color
schemes when you apply it to a website. Applying a theme is a quick and easy way
to ensure your site is visually consistent and appealing.
Each Windows SharePoint Services site and subsite has its own theme setting
that can be configured using the browser. You can also add your own custom
themes, as detailed in the following procedure. When you apply a theme, it will not
affect the layout of your site. In addition, applying a theme will not change any individual
Web pages that you have applied themes to by using a Web page editor compatible
with Windows SharePoint Services, such as FrontPage 2003. When you
create pages, the default theme is applied automatically. If you change or remove
the default theme, the change is applied to the entire site.
To apply or remove a theme on your site, you must have the Apply Themes
And Borders right for that site. The Apply Themes And Borders right is included by
default in the Web Designer site group.
To add a custom theme to the list of available themes
By default, you are provided with 20 themes to choose from on the Apply
Theme To Web Site page. If you want to add a custom theme, complete the following
procedure:
1. On the navigation bar, click Site Settings, and then, in the Customization
section, click Apply theme to site.
2. In the Address bar on the browser, replace the file name themeweb.aspx
with spthemes.xml.
For example, if the Address bar showed http://server_name/_layouts
/1033/themeweb.aspx, you would change the path to http://server_name
/_layouts/1033/spthemes.xml.
3. Edit the XML file, and add a new section for your custom theme, similar to the
following code:
-
newtemplateid
NewTemplateDisplayName
Description
../images/image.png
../images/image.gif
Hooray! Your file is uploaded and ready to be published.
