836 Part IX: Maintaining a Server in Windows SharePoint Services
Online Gallery
List and Library Web Parts
When you create lists or libraries, you will find them listed in the Browse or Search
tool pane under the gallery. You can then use a drag-and-drop operation
to move them onto the Web Part Page. The default view will be used to display items
stored in a list or a library. These Web Parts are often called List View Web Parts or
data lists. You can change the view, edit the current view, and change the toolbar type
by using the List View section in the Properties tool pane, as illustrated in Figure 31-3.
Be careful when switching to a different view from the current view. You might
remove changes you have made to the current view and might disable Web Part
connections that depend on columns in the current view. You are prompted for confirmation
if you switch views.
The title property for the List View Web Part is set to the name of the list, with the
detailed link set to the Web Part Page that displays the list and the Help list set to the
List View Part Summary topic in the User’s Guide. These Web Parts are often used in
combination with a Form Web Part. They also cannot be exported to a .dwp file.
The default Web Parts displayed in the Online gallery are based on the Content Editor
Web Part and reference Web services over the Internet. The URL for this Web service
is specified in the OnlineLibrary element of the Web.config file for a site. This
gallery provides a way for the IT administrator to deploy Web Parts so that many
servers can share access to a common, centrally maintained gallery of Web Parts.
The built-in Web Parts are listed here and are illustrated in Figure 31-4.
