To create the virtual servers for a new portal site<br />

1. Open Administrative Tools <strong>and</strong> then click Internet Information Services.<br />

2. Right-click the Web Sites container, point to New, <strong>and</strong> then click Web site.<br />

3. Follow the directions to start the wizard. On the Web Site Description page,<br />

enter a description (such as “SharePoint Cluster,” which is used in Figure 12-25),<br />

<strong>and</strong> then click Next.<br />

4. On the IP Address And Port Settings page, select the IP address of the cluster<br />

in the Enter the IP address to use for this Web site box. Leave the default<br />

TCP port of 80 in the TCP port this Web site should use (Default 80) box,<br />

as illustrated in Figure 12-26.<br />

5. On the Web Site Home Directory page, enter the path to the folders that contain<br />

the Web site for the virtual server, as illustrated in Figure 12-27. (This can be<br />

any physical file folder except Inetpub\wwwbin, because that folder is already<br />

used by the default virtual server.) Deselect the Allow anonymous access<br />

check box, <strong>and</strong> then click Next.<br />

6. On the Web Site Access Permission page, verify that only Read <strong>and</strong> Run scripts<br />

(such as Active Server Pages [ASP]) are selected, <strong>and</strong> then click Next. Finish the<br />

wizard.<br />

7. Repeat the preceding steps on each front-end Web server.
