By default, your portal site and most Windows SharePoint Services websites
come with built-in libraries. The name of the document library will vary depending
on the site template used to create the site. This is detailed in the following section.
More Info Site templates were covered in Chapter 16, “Administering
Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services.” Area templates will be covered in
Chapter 20, “Working with Information Components in SharePoint Products
and Technologies.”
Portal Site Document Libraries
In a default installation of SharePoint Portal Server 2003, each area or topic within
a portal site contains two libraries—except for the Sites area, which contains none.
The two libraries created in each area or topic are as follows:
■ Document Library. This library is of type Document Library, with versioning
and content approval disabled. It defaults to using a Microsoft Word document
template for all new documents created using the browser interface.
The document templates are copied from :\Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\60\TEMPLATE\LCID,
where LCID is the Locale ID. A subfolder structure exists for each area and
topic. For example, the subdirectory SPSHOME is the template directory for
the home page, SPSNEWS is the template directory for the News area of the
portal, and SPSTOPIC is the template directory for the Topics area. The subdirectory
STS contains the template subdirectories for the Windows SharePoint
Services websites. The document libraries created for these sites are detailed in
the next section.
■ Image Library. This library is of type Picture Library.
Documents can therefore be physically located as content within a specific
area or topic as well as associated with other areas or topics.
