Chapter 32: Using Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 to Customize SharePoint Products 921
If you don’t care about trying to mimic the LVWP, create the DVWP from
scratch by choosing Show Data on the context menu of a SharePoint list in the Data
Source Catalog. Select the specific fields that you want to insert, and click Insert Data
View. Doing this will cause less XSLT to be generated, and then you can build your
links and formatting using the table and other formatting tools in FrontPage 2003.
In the following example, we will actually convert the Links LVWP into a
DVWP and leverage Data View–specific features to create a customized presentation.
To follow along with this example, we suggest that you add a few links to the
default Links Web Part.
Again, we will add a new page to the root directory of the FrontPage 2003
project. This time we’ll name it Links.aspx.
1. From within FrontPage 2003, open the empty page Links.aspx in Design mode.
Hover the cursor over the Insert option on the Table menu. On the resulting
flyout menu, click the Table option. Accept all the defaults, and click the OK
button to insert the table.
2. Position the cursor in the first cell. Click Insert Web Part Zone from the Data
menu to create Zone 1. This will contain the “before” view.
3. Position the cursor in the first cell of the second row. Click Insert Web Part
Zone from the Data menu to create Zone 2. This will contain the “after” view.
4. Click the Click to insert a Web Part link in Zone 1 to open the Web Parts
task pane. (See Figure 32-65.)
