520 Part VII: Information Management in SharePoint Products and Technologies
Tip A user, who has only reader rights on the portal site, cannot directly
navigate to the area and topic document libraries. The only method the user
has of getting to a particular document library is via the results of a search
query. It is therefore important that users who contribute content make their
information easy to find by using features such as audiences, listings, keywords,
Best Bets, and document properties (metadata).
As a member of the Contributor, Content Manager, Web Designer, or
Administrator site group, you can navigate to the portal document libraries
by clicking the Manage Content link under the Actions section in the navigation
area on the left.
Websites Document and Picture Libraries
When a website is created, the default site template creates various document and
picture libraries. The templates and libraries they create are as follows:
■ The Team Site, Document Workspace, and Multipage Meeting Workspace site
templates create a document library named Shared Documents.
■ The Blank Meeting Workspace and Blank site templates create no document
libraries.
■ The Basic Meeting Workspace and Decision Meeting Workspace site templates
create a document library named Document Library.
■ The Social Meeting Workspace site template creates a picture library named
Picture Library.
My Site
Portal site users who are assigned to at least the Member site group can create a personal
website—My Site. See Chapter 23, “Personalization Services in SharePoint
Products and Technologies.”
Note A person with the Create Sites and Create Personal Site rights can
also create a personal site.
The default personal site template creates three document libraries—My Pages,
Private Documents, and Shared Documents; it also contains one picture library—My
Pictures. The document library Private Documents is private to the user, whereas My
Pages, Shared Documents, and My Pictures are shared on a user’s public home
