24 Part I: Introduction to SharePoint Products and Technologies
Warning Avoid installing FrontPage Server Extensions (FPSE) from
Microsoft because this is not a supported configuration when installing Windows
SharePoint Services. If you must run FPSE, be aware that you should
install it into another virtual server, and that Windows SharePoint Services
will not automatically extend the Default Web Site.
Windows SharePoint Services Database Options
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (Windows) (WMSDE) is installed whenever
you install Windows SharePoint Services under the following conditions:
■ When installing without specifying the Remotesql flag in the command line
■ When installing from a command line using the remotesql=no flag
■ When selecting the Typical Installation install option in the setup dialog boxes
If you are using the command-line interface to install Windows SharePoint Services
or a script to run the installation, you can specify a separate server to use for
your database. See Table 2-2 for an overview of the ways in which Windows Share-
Point Services installations use either WMSDE or SQL Server databases.
