10. Clear the Allow anonymous access to this Web site check box, <strong>and</strong> then<br />

click Next.<br />

11. On the Web Site Access Permissions page, select the permissions to use <strong>and</strong><br />

then click Next.<br />

If other users are allowed to contribute to the site, you must select at least the<br />

Read, Write, <strong>and</strong> Browse check boxes. If your virtual server allows scripts to<br />

be run, you must also select the Run scripts (such as ASP) check box. If you<br />

want to allow ISAPI applications or CGI scripts to be used on your virtual<br />

server, you must also select the Execute (such as ISAPI applications or CGI)<br />

check box.<br />

12. Click Finish.<br />

Now you can configure the authentication method to use for the extranet virtual<br />

server.<br />

To configure the authentication method for the extranet virtual server<br />

1. On the extranet front-end Web server, in Internet Information Services,<br />

right-click the virtual server that will be used for the extranet site, <strong>and</strong> then<br />

click Properties.<br />

2. On the Directory Security tab, under Authentication <strong>and</strong> access control,<br />

click Edit.<br />

3. Select the Basic authentication check box, <strong>and</strong> clear all other authentication<br />

method check boxes.<br />

4. Click OK to close the Authentication Methods dialog box.<br />

5. On the Directory Security tab, under Secure communications, click Edit.<br />

6. In the Secure Communications dialog box, select the Require secure channel<br />

(SSL) check box <strong>and</strong> then click OK.<br />

7. Click OK again to close the Properties dialog box.<br />

Note You must have a certificate before you can enable SSL. For more<br />

information about SSL certificates, see the topics “About Certificates” <strong>and</strong><br />

“Setting Up SSL on Your Server” in IIS 6.0 online Help. For more information<br />

about IIS authentication methods, see the topic “About authentication”<br />

in IIS 6.0 online Help.<br />

After you have configured the authentication method, you can install Windows<br />

SharePoint Services.
