30 Part I: Introduction to SharePoint Products and Technologies
To install Windows SharePoint Services with SQL Server, install SQL Server on
the appropriate machine and then follow the steps in the next procedure.
Note Before you begin, be sure to review the prerequisites for installing
Windows SharePoint Services outlined at the beginning of this chapter. For
example, you want to ensure that your server has IIS 6.0 running in process
isolation mode, and that you have ASP.NET installed. Take the time to read
through these prerequisites to prevent problems.
To install Windows SharePoint Services with SQL Server
1. Start the installation by opening the Stsv2.exe file, or double-clicking Setupsts.exe,
or typing setupSTS.exe remotesql=yes from a command line and
then pressing Enter.
Note You can automate the Windows SharePoint Services setup installation.
From a command line, start the SetupSTS program using the remotesql=yes
property. For example, if you extracted your installation files into
the c:\Temp\WSS directory, type c:\temp\WSS\SetupSTS.exe remotesql=yes
/qr from a command prompt, and then click OK. The program
installs without intervention and without loading WMSDE. Finally, configure
the SQL Server connections.
2. On the End-User License Agreement (EULA) page, read the EULA, select the
I Accept The Terms In The License Agreement check box, and then click
Next.
3. On the Type Of Installation page, select the Server Farm option button and
then click Next.
4. On the Summary page, review your selections and then click Install. The
installation process for Windows SharePoint Services will take place.
