Chapter 30: Default Tools to Customize Windows SharePoint Services 807
You cannot add templates to the Web Part Page creation form, and you cannot
embed Web Parts in any of the predefined templates. The white paper “Microsoft
SharePoint Products and Technologies: Creating Custom Web Part Page Templates”
by David Long, Lana Fly, and Scott Ruble, July 2003, describes how to create a new,
customized creation form that contains an unlimited number of custom page templates
that can contain embedded Web Parts. Sample Web Part Page templates that
accompany this article are available for download. You can modify these sample
templates to fit your needs. The information in this white paper also applies to
SharePoint Portal Server.
For Windows SharePoint Services sites based on the default workspace site
templates, Social Meeting, Decision Meeting, Blank Meeting, and Basic Meeting, you
need to create a Web Part Page elsewhere and then upload it to a document library.
Remember that not all websites contain document libraries; you might first need to
create one by clicking Site Settings on the Modify This Workspace drop-down list,
clicking Modify Site Content, and then clicking Create New Content.
List and Library Web Part Pages
When lists or libraries are created, a number of Web Part Pages are created for you.
You cannot edit these Web Part Pages, and therefore you cannot see the zones or
Web Parts that are an integral part of these Web Part Pages using the browser.
Lists and libraries come with a set of views, such as All Documents, Explorer
View, Approve/Reject Items, and My Submissions for document libraries; All Contacts
for a contacts list; Threaded and Flat for discussions; All Events, Calendar, and
Current Events for an events lists; and Overview, Graphical Summary, and All
Responses for a survey. The All Responses survey view displays a list of every
response, but you have to click each response separately to see each respondent’s
response. The All Responses option is designed so that you can view a list of all the
respondents and the date they responded. You can use the Graphical Summary view
when you want to determine the frequency of each response or the percentage of
responses per item.
Views make it quick and easy to see information in a variety of ways. Each
view is a Web Part Page linked to the Quick Launch bar on the page that displays the
list or library. Through the browser, you can add new views and modify or delete
existing ones by clicking Modify Settings And Columns in the Actions list; by doing
this you are adding, modifying, or deleting Web Part Pages.
