Summary
Windows SharePoint Services introduces major improvements over SharePoint Team
Services v1.0. One of the main architectural changes is the consolidation of all data
and product information into database technologies. The result of this is a complete
split of front-end and back-end components that allows for flexibility in the scaling
of a Windows SharePoint Services deployment.
The site architecture of Windows SharePoint Services relies on underlying technologies,
while adding to them with its own infrastructure. IIS, ASP.NET, and Windows
Server 2003 all provide services that Windows SharePoint Services uses and
builds upon. The infrastructure provided by Windows SharePoint Services processes
client requests and renders pages for clients to view.
