326 Part IV: Deployment Scenarios
A sample syntax is as follows:
stsadm.exe -o setconfigdb [-connect] -ds [-du ]
[-dp ] [-dn ] [-hh] [-adcreation]
[-addomain [-adou ]
To create the administration virtual server from the command line
1. Open a command prompt window, and navigate to the \Program Files
\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\60\bin folder.
2. Run the following command to create the administration virtual server:
stsadm.exe -o setadminport -port -admapcreatenew -admapidname -admapidtype -admapidlogin
-admapidpwd
An example of this is as follows:
stsadm.exe –o setadminport –port 1035 –admapcreatenew –admapidname DefaultAppPool
-admapidtype configurableid –admapidlogin DOMAIN\user1 –admapidpwd P@ssw0rd
In the preceding Stsadm.exe example, Setadminport sets the port number for
the administration virtual server for Windows SharePoint Services. The ssl parameter is
used to specify a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) connection to the port. The admap...
parameters are used to specify the IIS application pool to use or to create a new IIS
application pool for the administration virtual server. See Table 13-2 for a listing of
the required and optional stsadm.exe parameters relative to creating a virtual server
from the command line.
Table 13-2 Stsadm.exe Parameters
Required Parameters Optional Parameters
-port -admapcreatenew
-admapidloginname
-admapidnametype
-admapidpwdlogin
-admapidtypepwd
-ssl
Parameter Definition
admapcreatenew Specifies that a new application pool is created in Internet Information
Services (IIS).
admapidlogin The user name to use for running processes in the administrative
application pool. This value must be a Windows NT user account
name and must be qualified with a domain name—for example,
DOMAIN\name.
