1110 Part XI: Upgrading and Migrating to SharePoint Products and Technologies
You can migrate a site to a new virtual server, to a new top-level website on an
existing virtual server, or to a subsite under an existing top-level website.
1. If you plan to complete an in-place upgrade—that is, you are going to use the
same server that was running your SharePoint Team Services sites to run your
Windows SharePoint Services site and the server is running Windows 2000
Server—remove SharePoint Team Services from all virtual servers that have
been extended, as follows:
a. Navigate to the Server Administration page. You can get to the Server
Administration page by clicking Start, then clicking All Programs,
Administrative Tools, and then clicking Microsoft SharePoint
Administrator. Then, next to the virtual server you want to uninstall
SharePoint Team Services from, click Administration.
b. Click Uninstall Microsoft SharePoint.
c. To perform a full uninstall, on the Uninstall Microsoft SharePoint page,
next to Full Uninstall, select Yes.
d. Click Uninstall. When you uninstall SharePoint Team Services, the virtual
server remains, but in an un-extended status, and some content might be
left on the file system in the virtual server directory. Because you have
already backed up the websites, you can delete this content from the file
system after you uninstall SharePoint Team Services and before you
install Windows SharePoint Services. After you install Windows Share-
Point Services you can restore the websites, and the content will be
added to the content database.
e. Once SharePoint Team Services is removed from all virtual servers, you
should uninstall SharePoint Team Services from the server using the Add/
Remove Programs feature. You might also consider uninstalling MSDE,
if that was installed by SharePoint Team Services, first ensuring that no
other applications are using that MSDE instance. Next, upgrade your
server to Windows Server 2003. For more information about upgrading to
Windows Server 2003, see the Windows Server 2003 documentation.
2. It is recommended that you uninstall FrontPage Server Extensions. These are
automatically installed if you upgrade to Windows Server 2003 from a Windows
2000 Server that had FrontPage Server Extensions installed. If you want
to run both FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions and Windows SharePoint Services,
you must first remove FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions from the default
website before installing Windows SharePoint Services. If the default site
contains information that you wish to preserve, use the SharePoint Migration
Tool to back up the data before removing FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions.
To remove FrontPage Server Extensions, complete the following:
a. Click Start, point to All Programs, then Administrative Tools, and click
Microsoft SharePoint Administrator.

Hooray! Your file is uploaded and ready to be published.
