For more information on search techniques and indexing, please see Chapter 22,
“Managing External Content in Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003.”
This chapter discussed how to use information components other than documents
and document libraries. The information components detailed in this chapter
included lists, Topics, listings, areas, keywords, keyword Best Bets, and metadata.
Although lists, like document libraries, enable you to store information and are
organized to facilitate collaboration, they might not suit the casual user of a site, as
such a user might not know the physical location of the lists and document libraries.
Many of the information components can be used to represent the business-oriented
view of the content and are a reader-oriented approach to organizing information.
This is one of the strengths of SharePoint Products and Technologies—it allows you to
organize information into multiple views that assist in sharing and finding information.
