Summary
■ On the Component Assignment page, only one server should be present,
the row of check boxes—Web, Search, and Index roles—should be
assigned to this server, and this server should also be selected in the Job
server list in the Job Server Component section.
■ Create a portal site. At the end of a successful portal site creation, the
Operation Successful page appears. You can then further configure the
portal site.
■ Optional: Install and configure the components for backward-compatible
document libraries.
■ Check that the installation is configured correctly and can be accessed as
planned. Such a check should include ensuring that the proxy server settings
for Internet access are specified correctly and that you can access
and create information objects such as areas, topics, document libraries,
and lists as planned.
This chapter discussed the deployment of Windows SharePoint Services and Share-
Point Portal Server 2003 in a single-server and small farm configuration. It described
the reasons why you might want to install SharePoint Products and Technologies
using WMSDE and why you might need to migrate to SQL Server, either on the same
machine as a SharePoint Portal Server installation or on a separate server.
