I’d also like to thank my co-authors for turning in some really great chapters.
There were more than a few times, when I was reading through their chapters, that
I’d think “Wow, I like this!” or “Man, this is good stuff!”. It has been a real treat to work
with all of you and I’d like to tip my hat to you for writing some very good content.
The product team had significant input into both the outline and the content.
In fact, each chapter in the book was reviewed by at least one member of either
(and often both) the SharePoint Portal Server team and/or the Windows SharePoint
Services team. In addition, each team had their own editors who reviewed the chapters
for terminology and overall flow. More than a few mistakes and technical inaccuracies
were caught and more than a few of the product team members made
themselves available for personal interviews to help us understand the technology in
areas where it wasn’t well documented. These members answered e-mails and
endured (at times) our endless stream of questions with grace and patience. Other
product team members were “looped in” to answer specific questions and their
cooperation was deeply appreciated. To each of you on the product teams, thank
you for your input and assistance.
On the SharePoint Portal Server team, I’d like to thank Adam Rosenblatt for his
willingness to look at this project and navigate it through the product team hierarchy
for their approval and support. Without Adam’s help and support, this resource kit
would not be a reality today. Thanks, Adam, for working with Microsoft Press and
for supporting this project the way you did.
Also, I’ve communicated with Emily Schroeder, Crystal Thomas, Hannah Love
and Maria Hristova on a (nearly) daily basis for the last six months. I think they’re
glad they’re not receiving more e-mails from me! But they were the product team
point people who ensured the chapters were passed through the product team
members in a timely fashion and as well as making sure the terminology was correct.
Their help and input was invaluable and much of what you see is a direct result
of their efforts. To all four of you, thank you so much for adding high value to the
final product.
At Microsoft Press, Valerie Woolley was our main project editor and she was
tasked with worrying about whether this book was going to be finished on time
and keeping me going with my authors. Hilary Long ensured that the production
schedule was on time to get the book into print as fast as possible. Both
were gracious in working with the common life events that tend to push deadlines
out. Thanks for your patience and professionalism. I’ve enjoyed working with you
two and hope to do it again on another book.
Back here in Minnesota, my wife Kathy has really put up with more than a wife
should. Writing (and editing) a book is time consuming and she’s endured me
working evenings and weekends–more than I should have. Kathy, thanks for being
a great wife, friend and life-long companion. And to David and Anna, my two children,
you two give me more joy and meaning in my life than you know right now.
And I’m looking forward to teaching you guys how to ski and tube this summer!
