Chapter 2: Installing Windows SharePoint Services 37
7. On the Upgrade page, the Yes, Upgrade My Programs check box should be
selected by default. If it is not, select it. Click Next.
8. On the Licensing Options page, select the appropriate licensing options, and
then click Next.
9. On the Select Components page, click Server Components options. You will
require the Enterprise Manager and Query Analyzer from Management Tools.
10. Choose any other components you require, and then click Next.
11. On the Start Copying Files page, click Next, and then Finish. The upgrade
process will take place.
12. Download the latest SQL Server service pack from http://www.microsoft.com
/sql/downloads, and then install it on the computer.
Once you’ve completed the upgrade, you can manage your database from the
Enterprise Manager. Your SharePoint sites should work normally.
Migrating WMSDE to a Remote SQL Server or Server Farm
If you are moving to a larger environment with one or many front-end Web servers
and one or many back-end database servers, the process is more complicated. To
switch from WMSDE to SQL Server and move to a server farm, you must perform
steps using the Internet Information Services (IIS), Windows SharePoint Services, and
SQL Server administration tools. You must also take your sites offline for a while. It
is recommended that you perform these steps at a time when usage of your sites is
generally low, and also that you notify users that their site will be offline for a time.
Note Ensure you have backed up the database as described in the “Backing
Up Your WMSDE Server” section earlier in the chapter.
The following process assumes that you will continue to use the original Web
server computer as either a stand-alone server or part of a server farm and that you
are moving the databases to a new back-end database server running SQL Server.
The following steps describe how to move from a single-server WMSDE installation
to a server farm with SQL Server:
■ Install the SQL Server client tools on the original server running WMSDE and
SQL Server 2000 SP3. The client tools are used to back up and restore the content
and configuration databases. The version of WMSDE that is installed with
Windows SharePoint Services does not enable remote connections from SQL
Server client tools.
