extension but will not be able to perform any other actions.
To configure blocked file types, click Manage blocked file types, under Security
configuration on the SharePoint Central Administration page. On the Manage
Block File Type page, you can add or delete a file type.
Modifying Columns
When you have a number of documents in a document library, you’ll find it useful
to have some information about them available—information that will allow you to
find the document you need without having to open each document or rely on people
to make filenames meaningful. Document libraries and lists can be easily customized
to display custom properties about the documents. You only need to navigate to
the document library or list, click on Modify Settings And Columns, and choose to
add a new column. The default is that any new column is added to the default view.
Additionally you can mark any column as “required” information and you can provide
a default value for the column, which can be a static text value or a calculated
value. If a column is marked as required and the user does not enter a value for that
column, the default value will be used. If you have not provided a default value for
a required column, the user will need to enter a value for that column.
The Name property of the column is a custom property that will be associated
with a document when it is stored. A number of information, or column, types are
available, such as text, user choices, numbers, currency, and dates. You also have
the ability by means of lookup references to reference other information that is
already stored in a list or document library in the current website, thus ensuring data
integrity. You can create the following numbers of each column type for each document
library or list:
■ Single line of text and single choice—that is, where a user is provided with a
drop-down menu or radio buttons—columns: 64
■ Multiple lines of text and multiple choice—where a user is provided with
check boxes—columns: 31
■ Number and Currency columns: 32
■ Hyperlink or Picture columns: 32
■ Date and Time columns: 16
■ Lookup columns: 16
■ Yes/No columns: 16
■ Calculated columns: 8
