If the proxy server settings for the index management server differ from the<br />

default proxy server settings, reset the proxy server settings for the index management<br />

server after applying alternate portal access settings.<br />

Note The default proxy settings are those specified on the Configure<br />

Server Farm Account Settings page. The settings for the index management<br />

server are those specified on the Search Server Settings page. When you<br />

apply alternate portal site access settings, the proxy server settings specified<br />

on the Search Server Settings page are overwritten by the settings on<br />

the Configure Server Farm Account Settings page.<br />

To reset proxy settings, do the following:<br />

1. On the SharePoint Portal Server Central Administration for server_name page, in<br />

the Component Configuration section, click Manage the Search Service.<br />

2. On the Manage Search Settings page, in the Servers <strong>and</strong> Topology section,<br />

click the name of the index management server.<br />

3. On the Search Server Settings page, in the Proxy Server Settings section,<br />

specify the proxy server information for the index management server, <strong>and</strong><br />

then click OK.<br />

You will now need to perform a full update on the People, Site directory,<br />

<strong>and</strong> This portal content sources, as follows:<br />

1. On the Site Settings page, in the Search Settings <strong>and</strong> Indexed Content section,<br />

click Configure search <strong>and</strong> indexing.<br />

2. On the Configure Search <strong>and</strong> Indexing page, in the Other Content Sources<br />

section, click Manage content sources.<br />

3. On the Manage Content Sources page, rest the pointer on People, click the<br />

arrow that appears, <strong>and</strong> then click Start Full Update on the menu that<br />

appears. Rest the pointer on Site directory, click the arrow that appears, <strong>and</strong><br />

then click Start Full Update on the menu that appears.<br />

4. Rest the pointer on This portal, click the arrow that appears, <strong>and</strong> then click<br />

Start Full Update on the menu that appears.<br />

The updates can take a while. After the updates for the People, Site directory,<br />

<strong>and</strong> This portal content sources have completed, check the gatherer log for<br />

errors such as “access denied” <strong>and</strong> for certificate warnings, as follows:
