Acknowledgments
The book that you now hold in your hands is the result of the collective effort of
many, many people from July 2003 to April 2004. Even though my name is on the
cover, believe me when I say that without the efforts of everyone listed in this
acknowledgments section, you would not be holding a resource kit right now.
This is the ninth book project I’ve worked on in the last three and a half years
and it has been, by far, the most comprehensive and most enjoyable (no offense to
my other co-authors on the other books!). In addition, it has been the most humbling
and rewarding project too. Getting out 1800 pages of content on a new, exciting
software product that is (quite literally) changing how we do business is a rare
opportunity and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it. There are several people in particular
who I’d like to acknowledge individually because they played such a pivotal role in
either envisioning or seeing this project through to completion.
I’d like to start by thanking Martin DelRe from Microsoft Press, who initially
approached me in June of 2003 about doing this book project. He had the vision
and energy to get this ball rolling, both with an author like myself and with the product
team. In addition, he navigated the book through the Microsoft Press approval
process and gained the necessary signatures to get this project in motion. Martin,
thanks for all your work on the front end of this project. I’ll be forever grateful to
you for your vision and assistance in getting this project off the ground.
Secondly, I’d like to thank Neil Salkind from StudioB, my agent, who did an
excellent job in helping me work with all the co-authors and with Microsoft Press to
ensure the contracts were in place to make this a reality. He also offered me some
great advice at key points during this project and I’m grateful for his assistance. As
usual, Neil, you did an outstanding job.
