832 Part IX: Maintaining a Server in Windows SharePoint Services
■ News Area. This Web Part is placed by default on the News Web Part Page.
It is based on the Grouped Listing Web Part, with the maximum number of listings
set to 3. It ignores listings in the anchor area, uses a minimum display template,
groups the listings by area, and sorts listings by creation date in
descending order. The subarea layers property is set to one. Therefore, the
Web Part will display the links in the Portal Listings list for the subareas
beneath the current area Web Part; for example, if you placed this Web Part on
the Topics page, it would display any links that were stored in the Portal Listings
list for the subareas Divisions, Resources, Strategy, Projects, and Locations.
If you placed this Web Part on the portal site’s home page, any links that were
stored in the Portal Listings list for Topics, News, and Sites would be displayed.
■ Topic Assistant Suggestion. Used to display topic assistant suggestions for
this area. The information that you view in this Web Part is a subset of the information
you could view if you displayed an area’s Portal Listings list and chose
the Suggestions view. The custom properties allow you to specify the maximum
number of items to display, (the default is 50), fix the width of the Web Part to
the first table row, specify the widths of columns, and customize the display text
if the Topic Assistant has suggested no items for this area.
Tip A Web Part that is not in any of the galleries but is very useful is the
Web Part named Portal Owner QuickStart Guide that is displayed on a portal
site’s home page. In the Miscellaneous category section, the property
HTML for Links’ text box contains code. This code displays links that, when
clicked, open a separate window displaying Help files. This Web Part can be
exported and then imported on any other Web page and amended to suit
your requirements.
Generic Web Parts
By default, these Web Parts are available in the gallery on all Share-
Point sites; however, a person with administrative permissions could remove the
Web Part from the gallery or make the Web Part unsafe to use. All these Web Parts
are accompanied by a Help file that can be accessed by clicking the arrow on the
right side of the Web Part title bar and clicking Help. This is available in Web Part
Page design or view mode. The Generic Web Parts include the following:
■ Content Editor Web Part. Used to format text, tables, and images. The Content
Editor Web Part is intended for adding HTML content to a Web Part Page;
it is not designed to link to a website. You can add content to this Web Part by
using the Rich Text Editor or HTML source editor or by providing a link to a
