NMS and DSA Messages
NMS Messages
All the messages are alphabetized for easy reference. Table 17–1 classifies messages into
particular message types.
Table 17–1. Message Types Table
Message Type Description
Access Authority Messages relating to the types of console authority allowed
in the network, passwords, and other security measures.
CENLOG CENLOG messages report and record significant
events/errors that occur in the Telcon environment.
Communication Facility These messages are responses to NMS commands that
affect various facilities in the network. Examples include the
following:
• Using the wrong RID
• Bringing up a terminal when the cluster is down
• Using the wrong facility name
DCP Status Displays status information (messages) on the NMS console
after you enter a STATUS command on a DCP.
Dial-out Operation When a system session-open request is received from a
host for a terminal that is attached to an inactive group, an
attempt is made to establish the physical connection with
the terminal through an auto or manual dial-out operation.
An auto dial-out operation involves a second port processor,
which is cabled to an automatic call unit connected to a
local modem requiring a special line module to perform the
dial function. This is performed through the hardware and
software and requires no human intervention. For manual
operation, you must perform the dial operation to the
specified group of terminals from the local modem attached
to the indicated port processor. The DCP always attempts
to locate an auto-dial line first. If it fails to locate an autodial
line, a manual dial-up operation is attempted.
Disk These messages provide information relating to disk file
manipulation; such as, cataloging or copying files.
Facility Move A response message is displayed on the NMS console when
an NMS MOVE command has been entered.
Inspect/Change Response messages are displayed on the NMS console
when an NMS INSP or CHNG command has been entered.
Magnetic Tape Response messages relating to file manipulation on
magnetic tape such as assigning, freeing, or canceling files,
or reporting a file as empty.
Miscellaneous Response messages displayed on the NMS console when
various NMS commands are entered.
