Glossary
Line Switch Module (LSM)
A switch that physically connects the lines that run from the operating and backup
front-end processors (FEPs) to the terminals. If the operating FEP fails, the LSM switches
the communications lines to the backup FEP so data transmission can continue. Used to
switch lines from one DCP to another DCP, either under Software Resiliency Control
(SRC) or operator control through an NMS command.
Link Management Services (LMS)
Link Management Services for the Telcon Terminal Handler Platform suite of modules.
Called from a Display Protocol Handler through the Data Link Service Interface calls
DLU$DO and DLP$DO. Called from the following Telcon asynchronous terminal handlers:
ALPMCP, ASYNMLCP, GTDLU, and VTDLU. Also called from the Asynchronous-UTS-
Converter (VTE) program product’s VTEXDLU module and the ILM-AUC Asynchronous-
UTS-Converter program product’s ILMASYCP module. Refer to the Telcon Terminal
Handler Platform Programming Reference Manual (UP-9255.8) for more information.
loadsharing
Loadsharing allows as many as eight DCPs to be configured. Each DCP has a primary load
and a secondary load assigned to it through the configuration. With loadsharing, when a
DCP fails, its primary load is absorbed by one or more of the other DCPs, but its
secondary load is not.
Local Area Network (LAN)
1) A computer system communication network that is confined within a specified
geographical area (usually a floor or a small building) and whose resources and
peripheral equipment are often shared.
2) One of the program products from the Open Systems products available for Telcon.
logging central node
The node that centrally logs event messages in a network. Logging can be done locally or
at a logging central node.
Maintenance Control Facility (MCF)
Each power control module in the basic (main) DCP600 cabinet contains a maintenance
control facility (MCF) which monitors and controls various DCP600 processes. The MCF
reports faults which appear as error messages in the control station windows. Each
partition on a DCP600 can contain an MCF.
