E
End User Services (EUSERV or EUSTRAN)
1) A system service that helps end user (EU) programs send and translate session
control messages.
ENET
2) Assists EU programs such as NMS to receive session control messages from the
network. A procedure in the EUSERV module.
A display abbreviation for Ethernet.
Glossary
Enterprise Network Services (ENS)
A program product that runs on Telcon and provides the LAN Platform services of 802.3,
FDDI, and 802.5, IPX, and SNMP agent.
Ethernet
A high-speed cabling system, developed by Xerox Corporation, that carries data through
local area networks (LANs). Ethernet provides a de facto standard for baseband
CSMA/CD LANs and is included in IEEE 802.3 LAN standards. Ethernet is an alternative
to an IEEE LAN. The physical and electrical properties of the two LAN types are identical,
but protocols and associated data structures (such as frame size and header content)
differ.
Ethernet User Initialization module (EUINIT)
Receives EU configuration statements from the configuration during Telcon system
initialization.
EUINIT
See Ethernet User Initialization module.
See end user services.
external end user (XEU)
An individual program or physical device external to a particular network, which uses a
bridge to that network to perform system operations. Nonhuman users include
applications and termination equipment such as terminals.
external user
The operator or the software that uses the data transport network specifically to perform
a task or application. Compare with internal user.
F
FDDI
See Fiber Distributed Data Interface.
Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI)
An ANSI defined interface that supports data exchange over a fiber optic media at a rate
of 100M bps.
