Glossary
TCP–IP Stack
A Unisys DCP Series program product that provides added functions for Telcon software
on a Unisys Distributed Communications Processor (DCP). TCP–IP Stack provides frontend
communications for OS 2200 hosts running DDN 1100, which provides two TCP/IP
applications-file transfer protocol (FTP) and simple mail transfer protocol (SNMP).
TCP–IP Stack enables communication with peer devices running compatible TCP/IP
software.
Telenet
Telnet
A PDN packet-switching network developed by General Telephone and Electronics
Corporation. Telenet can be accessed by many different communications devices.
A DDN Internet terminal protocol that provides a standard interface between terminals
and processes so sites can interact with remote timesharing systems.
Teletype Line Protocol Handler (TLPH)
Used for asynchronous terminals configured with an LCLASS type of TTYL. This is the
oldest version of Telcon’s three versions of TTY asynchronous line handlers.
Teletype Virtualizer Handler (TTYVTR)
Converts the INT1 output protocol messages to UNISCOPE protocol for TTYLPH to
handle. Also converts TTY protocol input messages to INT1 protocol messages for input
to CMS 1100, for either RSDCSU applications or TIP applications such as MAPPER. R12
typically points to the TCB (terminal control block).
Terminal Attach Facility (TAF)
(1) The module used for passing messages to terminal resource services (TRS) and the
terminal session manager (TSM). It can also be sued for passing messages between a line
protocol handler (LPH) and a virtualizer (VTR).
(2) A small Telcon interface module between LPH modules and VTR modules. For an LPH
to pass an input message to its corresponding VTR module, it must call TAF. For a VTR
module to pass an output message to its corresponding LPH module, it must also call TAF.
TAF is also the interface for passing special control messages to LPHTRS or to TSM. See
the R14 function-code parameters for TAF in the AASYSDEF element. Examples are
CS$TLPH, CS$TVTR, CS$THIC, CS$TDAL, amd CS$TTSM.
Terminal Session Manager (TSM)
The Telcon module that controls session establishment and disestablishment for terminals
other than DCA. Processes or creates session open or session close request commands
from (or in behalf of) a terminal. The AASYSDEF element contains the function codes to
be passed to TSM. For examples, FN$MSG, FN$AUX, FN$ALTCB, FN$DSRON, FN$SON,
or FN$SOFF. Usually called by LPHTRS for most terminal types.
Termination System Transport Network (TSTN)
The only DCA layer 3 transport protocol until the DNS protocol was created in Telcon
8R1. Requires a static SESSN statement in the configuration file for every session pairing
before a session can be opened between any two end points in the network.
