Glossary
File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
A method of transferring files between computers with different operating systems.
Established by the TCP/IP internet community from original DDN standards, FTP is the
fastest and most globally-accepted method of transferring or viewing files between
computer systems.
flow control
A function that controls data flow within a layer or between adjacent layers. Flow control
prevents queue and buffer overspill and data loss when the receiver is unable to accept
data.
Frame Relay
A data communications protocol developed in 1990 based on Integrated Services Digital
Network (ISDN) standards. Frame Relay is designed to accommodate bursty data
applications by providing high transmission speeds, low network delay, high connectivity,
and efficient bandwidth use.
Frame Relay User Device
A device attached to a Frame Relay network that is capable of using the Frame Relay
protocol for exchanging of information between it and other Frame Relay user devices
attached to the Frame Relay network.
G
See file transfer protocol.
global common system subroutines
Contains two location counters: $1 for procedures that can be called by any other
procedure through the CALL instruction; $2 for subroutines in virtual address SDR5
(address 2800-2FFF) that can be called within any other procedure through the SCALL or
JLR instructions.
H
hard throttle
An extremely low memory state where normal processing is not possible and the DCP/OS
must terminate runs to revive the system.
HCC
See host channel control (HCC) module.
HCONFIG
Configuration processor that converts configuration statements to omnibus elements that
Telcon can read.
Host Channel Control (HCC) module
Controls the channel protocol with CMS 1100.
