DCT 1000 Virtualizer Protocol Converter (DTVTR)
Interfaces between DTPX and UNILPH for DCT1000 terminals.
Distributed Communications Architecture (DCA)
A Unisys proprietary network architecture and set of communication protocols based on
the seven-layer Reference Model for Open Systems Interconnection. DCA supports the
protocols required for several different network environments to interoperate. The main
differences between the DCA and OSI architecture are in protocol implementation. DCA
software implementations allow integration and concurrent operation of appropriate
protocol modules or protocol conversion software that provide functions required in OSI,
TCP/IP, and other network environments.
Distributed Data Processing (DDP)
A computing environment in which processing and storage facilities are geographically
dispersed, but loosely coupled by transmission media. These computers are capable of
sharing, transferring, or distributing files and processing tasks associated with
applications.
DLCMAN
The main ILM management platform manager element for the new ILM handlers.
DMOPEN
Handles outbound open connection requests to a terminal from a remote application. Also
handles auto-dial requests to dial a phone number over an auto-dial port.
DNS
See dynamic network services or domain name system.
domain name system
The DCP provides a domain name system resolver for the pairing of host names with their
IP addresses.
Dynamic Network Services (DNS) Protocol
A DCA Layer 3 transport protocol that is an alternate to TSTN. It provides connectionless
network layer services between Unisys network nodes. (A network node is either a host
or a DCP.) The ISO 8473 internetwork protocol (IP) is the basis for the DNS network layer
protocol. Connectionless network layer services allow you to define logical routes
between hardware units in a DCA network without using SESSN statements.
Configuration time for DNS is reduced because it dynamically recognizes new node
addresses in the network and creates session paths for them. Unlike TSTN, DNS does not
require SESSN statements.
