Configuring Cyclone II DevicesProgramming Serial Configuration DevicesSerial configuration devices are non-volatile, flash-memory-baseddevices. You can program these devices in-system using theUSB-Blaster or ByteBlaster II download cable. Alternatively, you canprogram them using the Altera Programming Unit (APU), supportedthird-party programmers, or a microprocessor with the SRunnersoftware driver. You can use the AS programming interface to program serialconfiguration devices in-system. During in-system programming, thedownload cable disables FPGA access to the AS interface by driving thenCE pin high. Cyclone II devices are also held in reset by pulling thenCONFIG signal low. After programming is complete, the downloadcable releases the nCE and nCONFIG signals, allowing the pull-down andpull-up resistor to drive GND and V CC , respectively. Figure 13–7 showsthe download cable connections to the serial configuration device.fFor more information on the USB-Blaster download cable, see theUSB-Blaster USB Port Download Cable Data Sheet.
