Passive Serial Configurationoption is disabled in the SOF when programming the device using theQuartus II programmer and download cable. Therefore, if you turn onthe CLKUSR option, you do not need to provide a clock on CLKUSR whenyou are configuring the device with the Quartus II programmer and adownload cable. Figure 11–26 shows PS configuration for Stratix IIIdevices using a USB Blaster, MasterBlaster, ByteBlaster II, orByteBlasterMV cable.Figure 11–26. This ensures that DATA0 and DCLK are not left floating after configuration. For example, if you arealso using a configuration device, you do not need the pull-up resistors on DATA0 and DCLK.(3) Pin 6 of the header is a V IO reference voltage for the MasterBlaster output driver. V IO should match the device'sV CCIO . Refer to the MasterBlaster Serial/USB Communications Cable Data Sheet for this value. In the ByteBlasterMVcable, this pin is a no connect. In the USB Blaster and ByteBlaster II cables, this pin is connected to nCE when it isused for active serial programming, otherwise it is a no connect. You can use a download cable to configure multiple Stratix III devices byconnecting each device's nCEO pin to the subsequent device's nCE pin.The first device's nCE pin is connected to GND while its nCEO pin isconnected to the nCE of the next device in the chain. The last device's nCEinput comes from the previous device, while its nCEO pin is left floating. All other configuration pins (nCONFIG, nSTATUS, DCLK, DATA0, andCONF_DONE) are connected to every device in the chain. Because allCONF_DONE pins are tied together, all devices in the chain initialize andenter user mode at the same time.11–62 Altera CorporationStratix III Device Handbook, Volume 1 May 2007
